An unbelievably bad PAOK was heavily defeated in Yannena by the home team. This left us out of one of our prime targets, the cup. Words are not enough to describe how awful was the team's performance. They never really entered the pitch at all. It was like the opponents were playing with more players.
Partially the reason is the terrible condition of the pitch that resembled more a farming field rather than a football one. Certain players, due to their characteristics, like Fotakis, Koutsianikoulis and Vierinha are unable to unravel their skills in such conditions.
PAS, playing a physical and clever game managed what seemed to be the impossible; to score four goals against a team that in 21 consecutive matches had received only 8 goals in total. PAOK's players seemed unable to "move" at all. It seemed that the match against Atromitos left them totally without energy. It was more apparent in players like Vitolo and Garcia.
We don't want to stay on this match and give more details, as it was a disgrace in the history of the club. Fernando Santos was obviously disappointed and avoided to say many things. He said that this was just a bad spell for the team and congratulated the opponent.
He was asked about the reasons behind this unexpected performance: "...the pitch was in a terrible condition and we basically never entered it, we stayed in the changing room. It is the first time something like this happens and we must look at it as a bad spell. On Sunday we play against Herakis and we shouldn't talk about anything else. We had talked extensively about PAS, we saw and analyzed plenty of videos and the players were warned, therefore there was no surprise element involved" and he added: "We missed one of our goals which was the cup and we are very sad about this, now we have to look forward, focus on the next match and it is in the hands of the players to give the right answers inside the field."
